Things You Should Know
« on: January 02, 2005, 03:02:00 AM »

I just finished reading Charles' third book.  In my opinion, I feel the information presented will be very beneficial to those contemplating building a rig.  As opposed to this website, which has enormous amounts of information scattered throughout its pages and which can be daunting for first-timers to sift through, comprehend, and implement into a structured "plan-of-attack", Charles' new book attempts to structurize and help the builder develop a solid approach to tackling the task of building a rig.  All who have built rigs know how time-consuming it can be.  In my own personal experience, alot of time was spent just figuring out what obstacles needed to be tackled, let alone the trial-and-error process of solving those obstacles once they were discovered.  Wouldn't it have been nice to know ahead of time what those obstacles were going to be?  I sure think so.  And how about knowing some better approaches to solving those obstacles rather than experimenting with all manner of different ideas and then having to judge which had a more desired result when you really don't know what a desired result is?  Maybe I'm letting my thoughts scatter too much here, but that is what my building experiences were like - scattered.  Charles' book will alleviate all that by presenting the process in a more controlled and structured plan of attack, which probably would have shaved alot of time off my early building endeavors.  Nice work, Charles.

I heartly agree.  The book offers structure to what you will do--I wish I had had it.  I've spent a lot of time chasing my tail--so to speak.  Better now, but as I told Charles in an e-mail today, I just came up with a better solution to an arm problem.  Maybe that is the nature of the project, but everyone can benefit from this book.  You will start off right and, if you are building, pick up some good info.

Oh yes.  As always, there are pictures.  Due to the black and white nature of the printing process, a few of them make reference to colored arrows that of course cannot be seen in color, but it is usually clear which arrows are the colored ones by their shades.
