Glidecam V-8 Gimbal mod?

Has anyone modded the V-8 gimbal to use a similar style hand grip as the hand held glidecam models like the HD 4000 sled?

On the V-8 it has a curved "handle" and that doesn't work well at all for any kind of run and gun hand held usage.

If you have any ideas on the best way to accomplish this, that would be great!  The only reason I want to do this is because I wish to keep my V-8 and use it with really lighter weight rigs (Canon 5D with lens) or heaver rigs that require the vest and arm (Canon 5d, lens, mattebox, follow focus).  I primarily shoot weddings now days and would like to accommodate this a little better.

As far as I know there have always been bearings on all axis of the GC gimbals - New and old.
