Questionable deals on E-Bay
« on: August 29, 2009, 06:59:48 PM »

There is someone  on E-Bay selling a Baer Bel 4 year old arm for $1350 and a Canon XL H1 for the same price.  No bids accepted until you contact him and as far as I can tell he has no feedback.  The deals seem too good to be true--you know what that means. Wink  If you click his "about me" it takes you to a bookstore not even related to him.

Unfortunately you're right.  A friend of mine at work has parents in their 70's.  They gave all their money to an Internet religious scam and now have nothing--not even a place to live.  There is a special circle in Hell for people that prey on the elderly.

Somebody had some sound gear stolen, and posted the details on a forum I moderate. One item was a little rare, and was in a very unusual carry case. Both itekms appeared on eBay from the same seller. The forum users spotted it, and within 3 days the police got the gear back. Ebay cooperate with the police and I think wherever they can, they want the place to be honest!

E-Bay is very careful--every time I've bid on something that turns out to be a fake, they have advised me that the item has been removed and why.  It is to their benefit to check sellers and items.  It keeps the rest of us coming back.

It's a great place.  I'm involved in several of the Rig Engineering auctions and just received on of my winnings.  An Archer vest spar.
