My name is John Reese, and I plan on retiring as a Computer Science/Electronics Instructor sometime in 2010. I thought it would be fun to play around with video, mostly as a hobby but may be in the future make a few training videos in mechatronics. I have almost no experience in this field but I have purchased a Panasonic HMC – 150, an HP Z400 workstation, lights and a tripod, along with Sony Vegas. Since I will be retired I will not have much money to spend on additional items so I am thinking of going with PROAIM7000 MINI REVERSE ARM + MINI VEST + FLYCAM ULTRALITE Stabilizer. I have been looking at this site and hope to find a review on these items. It’s nice to see that there are many sites on the Internet covering this field. It’s also nice that I do not have to create an income from this venture. John

Hi there John. Welcome. A cool hobby to rest your retirement hands on. Aaaahh! I see you're interested in the flycam. Can I ask how much you want to put into this hobby?

Sure no problem. I have about $10,000.00 US so far into this hobby… maybe I should just buy a boat ; ) In the mechatronics area I would like to video some wind farms. One field I visited has over 750 wind turbines. That is why I thought a flycam might be helpful for some of the field shooting. I would like to keep it under $2000.00 US for a stabilizer kit and the HMC-150 is reasonably light at less than 4 pounds.

Hi John. 750 wind turbines!!! I can imagine the wind they can produce. Please do remember that the wind is the enemy of the steady shot.

Hi Vladimir, These wind turbines are well behaved because they just take the wind and convert it into electrical energy. You do bring up a good point because the day I was up there it was really blowing… I guess that is why they put the wind turbines there. I will probably have to do the shooting behind one of the control buildings to keep out of the wind.

Heavy crane, dolly is easier in the wind. I was always wondering about frequency synchronization in this el-producing technology,.. might be not very easy

Well I went ahead and ordered the PROAIM7000 MINI REVERSE ARM + MINI VEST + FLYCAM ULTRALITE Stabilizer today. I will start a new thread in the proper area and give updates on how this purchase goes and I know there will probably need to be modifications as pointed out on this site.
Vladimir, I believe all the wind turbines I saw are DC and then at their on-site substation they use inverters to convert to AC and match the line frequency.

This Flycam seems to be very popular. Well, as long you did your homework

Hi John, I'm curious if you ever received the Mini reverse arm kit? I was thinking on purchasing it but it seems to be out of the market now.
