Open Source Digital Cinema Camera based on Elphel
« on: March 20, 2009, 09:08:39 AM »

Fellow filmmakers

Maybe you have heard of the elphel digital cinema camera already. It's a project to create an open source digital cinema camera based on elphel.
We are searching contributors for this project who can help with:
mechanicals to build rigs and shells and prototypes.
electronic engineers.
programmers (web-programming skills needed).
designers.
If you know anyone who can push this foreward or are interested yourself: contribute and join this fantastic dream camera.
And finally: Advertisers for it. Talk about it. Smiley

The current bottleneck is the sensor. Most promising up seems to be the Panavision Dynamax 35, a 37mpx sensor which will be mass-produced end of 2009.

And here a small product sheet:

This is the current wiki:
http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=HD_cinema_camera_Development_FAQ

new google group:

main engineering/programming discussion on dvinfo:

Cheers,
Yannick

Who is constantine?

Everyone who could provide inputs/feedback/suggestions is welcome not just technical skilled people. We need enough users to get this done.
Apart from that full-frame sensor for third partie producers, but it should come soon.

It already shots RAW and everything can be manually controlled.

Hello Yannick. This sounds like a great project. Iam going to read about it tonight to see what this is exactly and get to know and understand exactly what you are up to.But anyhow I can do mechanical design and give you solutions and ergonomics as well as other things.
I ll be back to you later. You can also visit my site if you like to see my project product    www.the-running-rig.webs.com
Iam currently finished a moke uo and tested it with out the stabilizing arm and it works much better than I expected. Now I start with the real thing. Regards.Constantine Wink

Thanks for joining the project Konstantinos. This is looking pretty good. I'm not sure yet if we shall go 2 or 4 rods with it.
Do you have access to CNC machines?

Have you already seen this shouldermount with a ballhead?
