I don't know how many of you are students of film--we all should be. A print of the 1927 film has been found that is 25% longer after being lost since the 1920's. This film is considered the father of the science fiction film and a milestone of effects--all done in the camera. Fritz Lang-the director- left Germany to avoid Hitler and the writer--his wife--stayed behind to support Hitler. Somehow, between the 2 of them, they made an enduring masterpiece. No steadicam, no widescreen, just concern for the human condition. New DVD should be out this year. The past only shows how little is new.
I saw Metropolis at a very low price (5 euro) just the other day when we where shooting a scene into a megastore; i was about to buy it, but i took other two movies instead. I don't know why bit i find rather difficult to sit and watch old movies; i usally fall asleep after 30-40 minutes.... yet i fall asleep even watching Heat a few weeks ago...
