PROAIM-7000 Reverse Arm with flycam 6000
« on: August 04, 2008, 11:19:52 AM »

I'm far from a professional, but I'll give you my honest opinion about this system, and modification that I've done to make it a usable system. Cheesy

First off, I really only do video work on the side, mainly for fun but I find myself wanting my shots to look as professional as I can without breaking the bank, so to speak. So I decided to purchase this rig due to the price and one other persons opinion from ebay who has already purchased one. I will say this, coming from India, I did receive it really fast and it was packaged very well and nothing appeared to be damaged. The first thing I noticed was the gimbal. It seemed like the bearing had a bad spot in it when rotating it around. I took the bearing out and sure enough it was damaged. I didn't think I would get one any better from India, so I bought a new one from applied industrial for $40, and that issue was fixed. This weeked I modded the sled out with my monitor and battery from my previous sled, and also added my firestore HD to the sled. I still have to mod the top end with some extra weight  before I can get a good feel for the new setup, but it looks pretty cool, and seemed to not be too much weight for the arm. The modified sled without the camera weighs in at 14 lbs. So with the camera I'll probably be just under 20 lbs. The arm is aluminum, with bearings in most of the right places Huh. I ended up having to take the arm completely apart, square up the aluminum bones a little and then all the bearings worked correctly. I think the person assembling these things has no idea what they are doing, because some of the bearings were in the wrong places. After I did get it all back together it seemed to work as it should. The adjusters on the arms are easy to adjust and will let you get the arm just where you need it for the weight of your sled. The vest, once adjusted for your body, seemed very comfortable. It has the normal socket block setup and it works well. If you want to fly the arm on the other side of the vest, it's easy to switch it out (reversable). Over all I'm happy with the rig, but thats because I have the knowlege and ability to fix the minor things I found wrong with it. If you are looking for a rig you can fly right out of the box, then forget it, this is not for you. If however you like to mod and fix things up, then for the price you can't beat it. I would have to say over all it's a decent rig for the price. I will add some pics if the rig and mods done, and some video once I'm finished with the sled.

Actually, I don't have any before pics but I will try and get the ones with modifications for you. I've also got my crane and dolly finished and I'll take and email you the pics of that if you like.

It didn't work at all. The bearing were not even working because of the bent bones. I kind of expected that when I got it because of where it was coming from.

Thanks. You did not mention the max weight the arm can fly.

I'm not really sure about the max weight. It says 20 to 50 pounds in the manual, and to tell you the truth, it probably could handle 50 but I'm not going to test that myself. I'm probably at about 25 pounds right now, and with a weight cage I'll end up around 30 or a little more probably when I'm done. I think once I get to that point and get DB, then It should really fly good. My Homebuilt rig would never fly that much weight. I had about 25 pounds on it once and the footage was really smooth, but the arm was getting ready to explode, along with the vest. Cheesy
