First, hats off to those who started this site and the ones who are keeping it going including the members. Another attracting aspect of the HBS groups is the diverse range of people who seem to come from all over the world.
Anyway, a little bit more about myself. I have a small production company, One World Studios, started it a few years back with my best friend. We made two documentaries about the vintage motorcycle scene here in Southern California. Since we've started out making documentaries we have always been a “run and gun” outfit. However we are now starting to position ourselves to making narrative stories and would need to have a little more control over the camera. I've used mostly Canon's XL series and most of those times I've hand held it with just a few exceptions when I used sticks. I'm ready for a steady cam, specifically the full rig. Since I love making things with my hands, and I enjoy making movies this site lends a hand in more ways than one. I will dive in real soon, but if you have any suggestions on where I should start or any tips I should know about I would love to hear them.
Welcome to the forum Scott. Glad you could join us. As anyone here would tell you...take a browse through the HBS 101 first to familiarize yourself with the basic info about rigs. Then you can start the different phases of going through the rest of the forum. The info here is large and frankly a silver platter for any up coming manufacturer breaking into the game. So dig in and share your knowledge with us and we'll share some with you.
Thanks Charles. I want to get started building a full rig, and need some direction. I'm sure Cody's book is the best place to start. Is this the best one to get for that? http://www.cafepress.com/stabilizer.137820744 Thanks. Scott
