Desperate! Need help with the collar, please!
« on: April 09, 2008, 08:45:08 PM »

Hello guys,
First of all thank you so much for all the ideas and help you're sharing over here.
I'm an italian movie director and I need a Stabilizer for my next work. I'll begin shooting at the end of the summer so I guess I'm still having some time left to build my rig.
I've bought and received Cody's Plans (low budget) and I'm enthusiastic about it. I've already started buying the required material.. however it seems it is simply impossible to find, here in Italy, a suitable piece of pipe required for the bearing collar (the 1/4'' x 2 1/2'' ID x 1'' aluminium pipe) so I'm begging for some help.
If someone of you guys can obtain it, or has it, could you please let me know and mail it to me? Of course I'm gonna pay for everything...
Thank you so much and hope you'll be able to help me...
My mail: gabrielebaldocci@gabrielebaldocci.com

Bye!

Just a thought. Wouöd it not just be easier just to rent a rig for the scene? I mean..it would cost a lot of money for someone to send all the parts required. Did you try the on-line companies that Cody listed? The cody you are going to pay for all these parts can certainly be put into renting a rig...well it depends on what size camera you will be using for your next shoot..

Hello Charles!
Of course it would be cheaper just to rent the rig.. but it's so extremely fascinating and satisfactory to have one built by myself that I cannot resist the temptation! Smiley But anyway, at the end the only thing I need is the pipe section for the collar so I don't think it would be so expensive to have it sent to me.. am I wrong?

I'll see what I can do.. Italy sucks for this kind of things.. I wish we had onlinemetals Smiley I went on the website but it's 70$ for the shipment only for a 2 bucks piece of metal.. If I could only have it sent by USPS it would be much better.. but they only ship overseas with UPS and that boosts the price up...
Anyway, thanks for the answer.. I'm sure I'll keep on posting as I'll go on with the building process Smiley

Perhaps www.speedymetals.com will ship to Italy? They say they can arrange USPS shipment if you contact customer service but I do not know if that includes international shipments (they are in US), and it appears they have the size you need (I could not find it on www.onlinemetals.com), it is 3.25" OD x 2.5 ID x 1" that you need, correct?

EDIT: Or was it 3" OD x 2.5" ID x 1" (I misread your first post and I don't have Cody's plans)... well they have that size also...
