EFP DVD

Charles asked me to do a review of the EFP DVD when I received it, so here it is. SPEND THE 20 BUCKS!!!! Bearing in mind that the tape was made in 1990, the quality is pretty good. But the image is not the heart of the matter. You get Ted Churchill and Jerry Holway sharing their collective knowledge at that time. Any of us benefit from what they have to say and cover in setting up the EFP, because it applies to all Steadicams even now. How to find the center of gravity of the camera, setting up the docking bracket, how to take the vest apart and put it back together, how to balance the sled--and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Operating techniques are covered and one that is often neglected--posture. There is only one topic not covered--dynamic balance, because the EFP could not be dynamically balance and the technique wasn't known at the time. Beginner or experienced, this belongs in all our libraries. Truely valuable.

I didn't want to go into a lot of detail--better to let those interested discover the pleasures. It is sort of a virtual workshop. I hope there will be other such DVD's from Jerry Holway and Charles Papert. Sure like to see one from Garrett. The JR tape was very good.

EFP?
It is the name of one of cinema Products high end rig during the late 80's early 90's. During that time an instructional video was made to help operators and/or newbies of the rig to become familiar with the new system. What made it so popular was it went beyond the attributes of the rig and made it one of the most popular instructional dvd to date.

Ahhhh, thank you. Sounds like a good deal for only $20.00. Do you have a website for ordering the video?
What information is gained in this video, that is not talked about in the video from Indicam.com?

David...pretty much the same thing but the EFP dvd is more indepth...for a almost 2 hour coverage...it better be. Like Phil said the only thing not covered is dynamic balance becasue at the time the EFP DVD did not have the means to do dynamic and/or it was not know at the time. Regardless if you if you have the Indicam dvd, still get the EFP because seeing two genius like Ted and Jerry do their stuff is simply worth the money alone. Trust me you will view that dvd over and over again...as i have...

David--look in the "News" section for EFP DVD and that will give info to order the DVD. You will get a DVD full of priceless information from 2 very knowledgable Steadicam operators, one of whom--Ted Churchill--I believe was the second to take up the craft after Garrett Brown. His personality and love of the work just jumps out of the DVD. What a shame he died young.

I received the DVD last week.. watched it and was amazed. Very nice and cool to see them both at work. Ok, some operator skills / technics by Jerry can be seen almost every convention he goes.., but to sad.. we cannot see Ted in life again. The chemistry between both is nice.. The end with Garrett is also very funny, typical american joke ? Love it, and will treasure it.. Erik

I keep send them mail but have not received a reply as yet.....2 months later.....
Would any of you assist me in buying a copy. Something like I pay you, you pay them, you get the DVD, you mail to me arrangement?
This would be greatly appreciated! Oh I'm in South Africa...

James, I would call them immediately. I do not like e-mail as they never guarantee that they reach the person or if they evr reads them

May I ask why? It should not make a difference...just EFP DVD is suffient. Or do you have another purpose for asking that question?

Well I will be phoning from South Africa making a international call....$$$$$, and being the little 3rd world country that it is spending more the 10min on the phone can reach a ridiculous price. I just like to be as specific as possible over the phone.
