I'm pretty surprised nobody's mentioned the hour long steadi shot during the beach battle scene of this film. It is impressive, if a little "let's get our money's worth out of these extras and this enormous mayhem we've spent weeks creating." Surprisingly good film. McAvoy great as ever - ever ratface wasn't too annoying.
It is from a novel about a romance that is betrayed and for which a character must atone. That is all I will say except it was very well done. The steadicam shot is actually a 5 minute shot during the evacuation from Dunkirk as WW2 escalates. Worth seeing--not an exploding robot to be seen.

Yeah, five minutes is about right. I really noticed how long a shot it was though. It's one of those where you say to yourself, "it's still the same shot" over and over again for what seems like a long time. It was nominated for best cinematography (Oscars or Bafta - I forget), when IMHO it was only standard good cinematography, but I'll bet it's because of this steadi-shot, which as we all know is a totally different thing from good cinematography.
I guess it intertwines with good cinematography...otherwise the vision of it's statement would not have been envision...if you get my drift? What the hell...am i getting deep here? HA HA
