12 volt 1800 mha battery on ebay
« on: February 05, 2008, 08:50:59 PM »

Hi Guys,

I have purchased a cheap monitor that takes 9v-12v in. (The AC to DC power supply that came with it provides 12v 1.5 amps.)

Now I need a battery.

Here is a link to a 12 volt rechargeable 1800 mha unit being sold on ebay for about $10, and which ships from Hong Kong. Is this a sensible solution?

I saw Phil's suggestion in another thread to read Jamie Glover's post on this subject, but I couldn't find it.

I have 4 of those, Martin.  They hold a charge real well and I've had no problem with them.   Smiley

Thanks Phil, do you know of any source other than Ebay? Apparantly Paypal doesn't like our Thailand VISA card.

Try contacting the seller directly.  Strange that E-Bay doesn't like your card.  Are you using Paypal?

It's not ebay that doesn't like my card, it's Paypal who are the seller's secure and only payment provider. Some companies won't accept credit cards from Thailand. It's a fraud think I guess. But I have contacted the seller and will find a way to purchase the batteries one way or another.

In the meantime, would you know the weight of the unit, and whether these batteries tend to degrade if they are not used and/or kept charged for long periods of time, like some rechargeables?

I don't know the weight, but they are extremely light.  One of them I didn't charge for 6 months--I charged it and it held and is still going.  I like them. Smiley
