I could be wrong, but it looks to me like much of it is made of steel??

Thanks for the pics I have noticed he has them for $991 USD now and I did see where he sold one to a guy who made a offer for $950. Im going to wait longer and see what his prices do. Surprized the Chinese haven't made them for $500

It would cost nearly that much to make one yourself. Just a shame about the Vest.

Guys, if you are seriously interested in purchasing an Asian made arm, I can confirm that the price of machining here is a fraction of what it is in the West. That is why this seller can sell for so much less. I expect he also has very low overhead, and is possibly limiting his marketing efforts at this early stage to what free exposure is available on the Internet.
Why don't you wait until I've finished my arm, when I might have another option to present. I'm using top quality materials and I'm in a position where I can closely supervise the work. If you like the look of it, I'll consider reproducing it on a made-to-order basis. I expect it to be done before the holidays when I'll post lots of pics.
I realize this is not really in the spirit of HBS, but there seems to be a lot of interest in this.

Hey Martin, any pics or design specs of the arm that you have in the works?

Here is the link to the thread where I have been documenting the rebuild of my rig, including the new arm. http://hbsboard.com/index.php/topic,3112.0.htmlThe design of the arm has changed slightly since I posted the drawings in that thread, so they are no longer entirely relevant, but I'll be putting up pics of the arm later this month.

Michael , Thanks a lot for all the pics and info I'm sure it will help a lot of people in their decision making. I was wondering a bit about the rod which I've circled in this pic...it looks like it is bent a bit which would impair fore and aft adjustment or is just the angle in the pic ? Thanks Mike

It is bent and yes that is rust you see in 2 of the pics. There also seems to be a bit of movement in the top of the fly arm but I haven't had a chance to narrow down where it is.

OK I know I am only new to this game but I have seen something rather disturbing with this unit. The bracket used to balance the camera is not secure. I have downloaded a little video to youtube for people to have a look and tell me their thoughts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk0IAL41x9MI fixed the first part by doing the nut up again but if you screw it too far you end up in the same boat again. The last bit of the video I still haven't worked out how to fix.

Can I just say that I have now bought 3 of these camera stabilizers from India and (touch wood /fingers crossed) have not had any problems! I do replace all the buckles with more heavy duty ones but other than that no complaints from me!

Hey Michael,
It appears the video in the link is private, do you think you can set it up for public viewing?

Video is back to public. Not sure what happened there. Have been able to tighten everything up but this is something to be careful of. What ever you do keep the tools handy. The bent bar is a pain as it has a lean on the camera of about 5 degrees. As for balance still trying to get it perfect but have got it close.

i have a big problem.
it seems that the gimbal has the same problem as in some of the glidecam v8/16's
if i balance the rig completely, and spin the sled around 180 degrees, it pivots and vice versa
i tried shimming the gimbal fork, but no success as of yet.
;(
