Some IBC 2007 Pics
« on: September 17, 2007, 03:31:20 AM »

Not many pics and certainly not a lot to showcase. But here are some casual pics from IBC 2007:

I did not played enough with the new Glidecam rigs to be able to give a proper review. The same with the  Sachtler system but I will give a few assestment on what I thought about them so far. I think I stayed  a little longer in the new Steadicam rigs than I did the Glidecam.

BTW, I wrote Ira Tiffen instead of Frank Rush of Tiffen. I don't know what I was thinking about. Stupid me.  Embarrassed Anyway the pic is of me and Frank.

Was good to see you again Charles!

FYI: The springs are the same in both the Merlin and Pilot arm - the ONLY differnece is the arm-post.

So Job, what did you think of the Sachtler? Is your back ok?  Wink

Hated the Vest. Arm is very springy, and i believe it will twist. Gimbal is the same as last year, it has clicks in it.

Okay thanks. I was suppose to go back the following day to give it a try and then do a test run on the new Glidecam X-22 arm. But something came up and I couldn't make it. It was nice to see you Job Smiley

Hey

You guys really are a bunch of lucky bastards!! Wink

That carbon arm....well what can I say it is SWEEEEET!

So guys please share, what was the best invention, innovation you saw at the show. Where are things moving to in the grip departments. Was there really anything new. Is there something we home builder should look at to build and gt a jump start on the industry? Please guys share!! Cry

James, I'll add my thoughts later on. I'm a little tied up at the moment but if Job beats me to it than he can tell you about the carbon arm. Smiley Personally there were not so many over the top devices as I would haveliked it but none-the-less it was fun meeting the guys Smiley

Well, i don't like too much the look of the smaller Steadicam rigs.  But that's a matter of personal taste; the Sachtler arm, and the whole rig looks cool... there is nothing to say, carbon fiber looks cool in almost any way...      and Job, to me he looks like Peter Berg!

Call me stupid, but who is Peter Berg?

The Sachtler had the same Gimbal issues as last year. When rolling over the sled you could feel the clicks in the tilt bearing. Also the gimbal felt stiff, and not centered. Static balance, turn the sled left and your balance is off.

The arm looks cool yes, is smooth but springy, elbow issues when running and i have the feeling it twist under heavy load. Why? The bolts are not true the arm. I am not good with explaining this but i have showed charles what i was thinking about that, and i think he agreed, but let him jump in there. The X22 from Glidecam has potential. The still need to reduce weight on that arm, but it feels almost like the pro arm. Much better than the Gold arm. I also like the 2 inch post route the are going. The also had the 1.5 inch post Gold as a demo. The had a op from germany i guess doing the demo. I showed him that the topstage was lose, but according to him that didnt matter  Cheesy Grin
The Gold needs a heavy cramk to get it tight but in my opinion its a design fault the need to change. But changes costs money. Perhaps the will when there new 2 inch post with HD comes out.

Steadicam had the Pilot and of course there other rigs.

For the rest, Nothing really new.
