I am currently using a lilliput 7" screen on my system. The glare is outrageous. The screen is rendered useless on a bright sunny day. I didnt use a shade, but would that actually benefit enough?
I believe the monitor is 300cdm, should I look for something brighter? The monitor is also a touchscreen which i dont use, maybe this could be causing even more reflection?

I have the Lilliput monitor, too. It's cheap, but worthless in sunlight, as you say. I've had a shade on mine, but it didn't do anything. You really need to create a kind of tunnel for that light to reach your eyes, so the shade has to be very long.
I once put a wall of cardboard between the monitor to the post so that the screen would be shaded. Unfortunately, this turned the sled into a sail with the slightest wind.
My advice is to make due with goofy solutions like that until you can justify getting a nice bright monitor.

was yours a touchscreen as well? I have a feeling that's the culprit.

Mine isn't the touch screen, but I can't imagine yours being any worse. It's pretty bad.
