I know it's not a movie, but it was my intro into what a steadicam could do. I remember always being blown away by the intensity of the show, especially how the camera seemed to dance with the actors in such an enclosed environment. Then one year at the emmy's, Anthony Edwards introduced the Steadicam operator from the show, who then proceeded to come out onto the stage and circle around Edwards. Then I saw first hand what the Steadicam could do and what it did. A montage about Steadicams in TV shortly followed and since then, it's caused me to go back and look through some of my favorite movies to see how a Steadicam helped add to the emotions of the film. The Shining was especially effective, but I learned about how Steadicams were used to create the backplates for the speederbikes in Return of the Jedi. Since then, I've been an avid supporter of Steadicams and their potential. I've even got the chance to work numerous times with a local steadicam operator. I'm building one of my own to use on a script I'm working on and hopefully it will work. I'll keep you all posted as I continue on with the building process.
