My new XL2
« on: January 04, 2007, 08:31:52 AM »

Is just arrived a few hours ago....  my brand new XL2.  Cool It was a tough decision:  Until yesterday my camera was a smallish sony handycam (hc-19e). A few months ago i was more toward the dvx100; i don't like too much the fx1/z1 (not sayng that is a bad camera).
I also have tinked about HDV cameras, but, from what i read around, the big question is: do i have the chance to get my works on a big screen so the major resolution is needed?  Actually i don't think i have so much chanches to get on the big screen. But however our (yep it's me and a friend, he likes more to direct and edit, i like more to shoot) works needs some quality and we can't get away too much with only two consumer cameras.
I also needed something more eye-appealing, hence the xl2.  I was thinking also about the xl-h1, but the price is almost the double, plus it will force me to buy a new computer, since my actual one sure can't handle HDV...

Now we have my xl2, than we use an xm1 that a friend sometimes give us.  My partner will probably buy another prosumer camcorder in the next months so we have finally a decent equipment to use.
Maybe i'll post some pics, but i'm pretty sure everyone know what an xl2 is.... Smiley

Michele,
I use the XL2 almost every day for ENG. With proper lighting and a few filters, it is capable of true beauty.

I'm shooting three short for various clients those days, and i'm tring to get the best out of the camera. The only problem is that due to various problems (very tight budget, time & location) we have to shoot without additional lights.  Some location (such as a library) looks good even with only existing light, others (classroom, gym) looks imho too amateusrish.    However, city streets looks great anyway. Is just a matter of put the actor very near a lightsource.
