THis is one amazing clip. Everything is just shocking. Wow!!! The fight scenes are nicely executed. That operator must definately get an oscar for his work. Thanks for the clip.

Yeah. I had read about him but the name of the operator sounded like a thai name.

Rob van Gelder was the first op to attempt it. The second attempt was with Somsak, and he got it on the first take. This is explained in the notes.

I just saw the movie! Worth seeing it!
I saw this 4min steady shot when this topic first started.
The other day when I saw the movie, I walked out the room and missed the scene.
When I got back my wife said "you just missed a nice steadicam shot!" Smiley) (and I recognized the end of the scene)

I have to correct my comment above. Somsak did "get" it in one take, but they did several additional takes over a month's time until it was right. There's a 35-minute featurette on the DVD about this shot, and they show all the takes. Great stuff.

I wonder if there is ever a stunt waiver taken out by a steadicam operator for these scenes.  The operator almost gets strapnel from the vase thrown.  On the final take you can see a bit of the hesitation knowing whats coming.  I find that a little distracting in the storyline...its a little predictable.  Sad .  Quite an accomplishment though.

However it is amazing to get it all before the mag runs out.  I especially like the surprise of interupting the coulple on their "Honeymoon" in the one room.  Too bad they don't make a  500' Steadicam Moviecam mag Grin.  It must of been hell to light this thing.

Being new to the boards here I'm building my first unit from a compilation of others.  Which forum is best suited to that?

My favorite line by a steadicam operator when I was first starting in the industry was "Move or Bleed", those were his exact words!!! Shocked
