A 'Big Thank You' to Mr. Garrett Brown
« on: November 13, 2006, 05:30:26 AM »

I'll like to show my gratitude to Mr. Brown and his invention. As you all know I have been a fan since 97 when coming in contact with the Steadicam and have been hooked ever since. I just like to publicly thank Garrett for his inspiration and for supporting this site in what we do. I always believe it was important to get Garrett's blessings to do what we do. Nothing official mind you but the mere thought of him embracing the eagerness of people's ingenuity is enough to make it worth while. He has been kind to sign my first book and had sent it to me but it gotten missing in the mail. Upon not hearing from him or if he had signed the book kinda made me disappointed. Until CP (Charles Papert) mentioned it to him. Garrett being Garrett bought my book and signed it the second time round and sent it to me. This time I got it. Smiley This made me very very happy and gained an even more respect for the man himself.

Every time we meet at one of these conventions we always have a good talk and he always shows admiration to wards HBS. As one member mentioned Garrett had directed him to HBS when he was asked about cheaper camera support systems. Now that shows a good sign that his approval is worth more than any negative feedback from anyone else. That's why I always want this board and site to maintain, a somewhat, professional level and intergrety for all it's residing members.

I just want to say - Thank you Garrett for an invention that has changed the way cinema has been brought forth to the public view.

I second that, Garrett Brown for PRESIDENT!..... ok maybe getting a little carried away. I really got inspired to even get into video from a movie I saw as a kid (The Shining) and to this day is still my favorite of all time. At the time I never even heard of a steadicam or knew that was how all of those amazing shots were done. And I would also like to give a shout out to you Charles and this wonderful site, really top notch site and top notch members. There's only one problem I have now....I want to build a better arm for my rig..... AHHHRRGG!!!Keep up the great work Charles, and congrats on getting your book signed. Cheesy

I first became aware of the Steadicam in an article introducing it in a 1977 American Cinematographer.  Fascinated me then and still does.  The tribute to GB is that the first rig would have been enough for most guys--but he kept improving it right up till today.  From 3 springs to 1--how brilliant.   Smiley  When I found HBS, I was amazed that someone had put up a site about building your own.  Over the years, I've seen it grow and become a unique place--a family, so to speak.  A place we want to come to--that is a tribute to Charles King.  Good job, my friend. Thank you guys but I thank you for taking part and contributing your knowledge. Phil, you have been with me almost since I started. The only person who has been with me practically since day one was Thanh Le. Yep, we all know him and his machinery prowess. Thanks to all.

Yep, that Garrett sure didn't know what he was letting loose  Cheesy

I too have been in awe of the device since I read that very same article Phil. And I have been using me eyes as if they were a motion picture camera ever since. And I thank you so much Charles for bringing together so much like minded inspiration together in one place on the internet for all to share. And of course Cody Deegan got me excited about building my own with his "Bubba" demo video on his website. So thank you Garette for inventing this wonderful way to move the camera. I spoke with you at NAB and found you to be a totally approachable creative genius with no pretense.

Radim,

If GB does go to IBC this year you should go to the Tiffen booth, walk right up to him, and shake his hand. He is a very, very nice man and completely approachable.
