MK-v tool -free upgrade gimbal
« on: November 06, 2006, 08:32:29 AM »

Hi Job. Listen I've been reading that thread over at the Steadicam forum about the kipp handle throwing the gimbal having some negative effect on the rig when tighten. I understand there is no problem issue. I saw your clip flat spinning clip and was impressed. I know the V2 gimbal can't be compared to the EFP gimbal which I purchased but I went ahead and puchased the upgrade tool-free sleeve for the EFP gimbal. Smiley Talked to Rebecca and she is such a wonderful gal. I met her in september at the IBC and she was a darling. Very knowleagable I must say.

Anyway, when you clamp down on the gimbal does the whole inner sleeve clamps down as well or just the lower portion?

Good choice charles.

The good thing about the fiber posts is the gimbal around it is so tight but still moves easy. With the clamp at the bottom its no issue becose there is no play in the first place. The glidecam with alminium post has that issue. Thats why i upgraded my gold gimbal. If there is play in the first place, it will stay, even when clamping the bottom part. the upper part still has play ( sleeve ). Now, that dont have to be a major issue, becose you operate as close as possible to the bearings. But, if the bearings has some play the problem is there again. thats why i upgraded to the mk-v sled. But its not a big as a problem as those guys want you to believe. Americans Roll Eyes

Oh, and you clamp the lower part, not the hole thing

Thanks for that info. So the fiber post are better in this area than the aluminum post? Okay then. I'm working on getting a fiber post but in the mean time I'll be using an aluminum post. It shouldn't be that much of a problem with the upgrade, right?

Hi Job,

What was your drop time in your video clips?

Did you have some video clip to show slow turning speed?

TIA
