Are you using a hardware editing board?  I ask becasue I have a Canopus board and it requires 5 volts.

Which means I have to be careful that the new one will support it.

I think ASUS makes some pretty good boards.

Hi Joe,

i too am using canopus.....  one of their techs told me that they used only TYAN mbs in their systems, but that was several years ago....  i suppose i ought to check their website for motherboards with compatability issues...

...

i honestly thought that there would be some strong opinions here on this subject, but i guess not....

i will check out asus... thanks

I bought Macs so that I wouldn't have to stress out thinking about what PC hardware configurations would be needed.  Smiley

Canopus, in the early days of digital video, was way ahead of MAC.

MACs have since caught up, but if you wanted professional editing equipment in the late 90s Canopus was one of the best systems available

Canopus offered real, real time, long before it was available in MACs

Besides even if you did have a video editing board for a previous MAC there is no guarantee that it would be compatible with their latest systems.

PCI is evolving to lower voltages to reduce power consumption and heat.  I believe PCI is a technology shared with MAC.

Canopus was recently acquired by Thompson, one of the most respected names in the professional video arena.  From the very beginning Canopus employed high end Sony video processing circuitry to produce some of the highest quality DV compression and filters in the world.

We have routinely used Canopus products to edit for broadcast.

So I guess there are other ways to edit video than just Apple.

Instead of abandoning a very expensive editing board it’s worth it to do some research.

David,

Which board do you have?

Hi Joe,

i just have the OLD dv raptor.... but it works....

since i started getting into this i have gotten so side tracked  with learning about sound, lighting, and steadicam that i really havent done any editing in a long time... now that i am getting close i figure that i will start with a good mb, and then start looking into the better video card solution as soon as the hd cards start to become common and hopefully affordable...   the main thing that i cant do with mine is capture analog, but i only have digital cameras so i guess that is not a problem...

any thoughts on the better cards? is canopus still one of the best for the ibm platform???

Morning David,

I was  thinking about your Raptor board.

I would definitely log on to the Canopus board and find out from some of those guys there.
