Since CK is fond of making fantastically difficult quizzes, perhaps I'll ask you guys to define the use and full names of the gents who were memorialized by the West bracket, and the Garfield mount...I'll give you a hint: the first term is no longer in use, but the individual is still active in the Steadicam world; and the second term remains popular while its namesake has been out of the game for years.

I'm still waiting for an answer CP. That seems pretty hard. Maybe some else knows the answer... Wink

Hey CP, if you still remember please give me the answer to your question asked in one of your previous post about the West bracket, and the Garfield mount?

CP, a.k.a Charles Papert Response:

"Wow, talk about leaving you guys in suspense!!!

In the 80's, Cinema Products decided to name some of the accessories of the Steadicam system after people who worked at the company. The West Docking Bracket was named for Terry West, a then-staff engineer who currently works out of his garage in Redondo Beach fixing sleds both new and old and building custom electronics and cables for all things Steadicam.

The Garfield Mount was named for the head salesman, Jesse Garfield, who parted ways with Cinema Products under what could be described as less than ideal circumstances--let's just say that the Garfield Mount quickly was renamed the Vehicle Mount, but at this point the term had been used long enough to stick and now everyone (not just Steadicam operators but grips as well) use "Garfield Mount" to describe this part.

A friend of mine reminded me this weekend that the J-bracket (precursor to the F-bracket) was originally called the Robings J Bracket, named after Ken Robings who was another CP employee who now works at Century Optics--that term has become as obscure as the West Docking Bracket."
