Topic: USED Model 3A LOOK-A-LIKE ARM for sale... (Read 4210 times)

This is my 3A (look-a-like) arm that I've had up on this site a while back. It is time that I got rid of it, I do not want it anymore.
Let me explain as clearly as I possibly can of its condition.
This is not a professional arm.
This arm was built by an operator named Jeff Clark some time ago for about $2000.00. It is made from 6061 type aluminum. It is 'well built' as far as I'm conerned.
It uses compression springs, but differently than the ProArm. It is very well built by the operator whom was not an expert in machining at the time, though he did have expert help looking over his shoulder. How do I know that? Because Jeff told me.
And then, I got hold of it about 5 or so years ago. It has been a fantastic learning tool for me. It has taught me the mechanics of the steadicam arm. It has the pulleys and the cables, the compression springs...etc.
I have not tried to fix it up for use, I did not want to do that. I wanted to keep it simply as a learning tool. And, that's what I've done.
For anyone interested in this arm, I do need to make a couple of things clear to you before you make your final decision whether you want to buy it from me...or not!
This arm...in its current condition...is not usable. It will take some work to make it usable (if that is what you have planned for it). I hold absolutely no responsibility if you fix it up and it fails on you with that expensive camera of yours. But, then again...it may work fine for you. I am selling it only as a learning tool. What you do with it at your own risk.
It is in very clumsy shape right now because it is missing the bearings and one trunnion (unless I find the trunnion before this sale ends...no guarantees). All the springs, cables, and pulleys are with it. There are some bearings in the elbow area that are not in the best of condition...but, they are press-fit.
This arm weighs approx 15 lbs, I think (I have to find out for sure) that I could get it shipped for under $20.00 (only in the U.S.), but do not quote me on this.
If anyone is interested in buying this arm from me, I will sell it to you cheaply, plus shipping. I would like $500.00 for it, but I feel that amount is a bit too pricey for what you are getting. So, I am letting it go for only $25.00. That's right...$25.00.
I have held nothing back concerning this arm. As I said above, it is not in usable shape at this present time, but it is definately fixable. If it were a professional arm, then yes, I would be selling it for $500.00.
Good luck.

Tim, This is really a rediculous price. No insult intended mind you. I just think you're underminding this arm. I advise you to re-think your offer. For those of you have have seen this arm, take a ook on the HBS website under links then reference pics or click on this link for all the detail pics of this arm: http://www.homebuiltstabilizers.com/Expogalleries/timsdisectedarm/index.htmSure it probably has faults but with some reconstructions on certain parts it can be very usable. Please re-consider. You are way too generous

I agree with Charles, you are not asking enough for this arm. I'll give you $85 + shipping. Maybe you should leave this post up for another week to see if anybody offers you more. If not I'll take it for $85.

Tim, It's worth more posting the pictures of it than that!
Put it on E-bay with no reserve and watch it go crazy!
think about it!,

Hmmmm...maybe you're right! This did not turn out as expected. I had no idea that the responce would be so positive. I had the impression that not too many people would be interested in it...especially here on HBS. If I have offended anyone due to my change of heart, I apologize. But, it was brought to my attention that I could get more out of it than what I was originally asking for. I do not want to put it on Ebay because I want to keep it here on HBS for the members. The members have been really good to me throughout the years, I want to help out in this way by offering my arm to someone here. I do not know how much the shipping would be out of the U.S., but it will be quite a bit. I will keep this posting on for a while yet to see how it goes. Thanks, Tim

Why don't u want to help a new member like me hehehe? As a poor abroad student steadicam rig is always my dream. Why do u let people get crazy like this? u can get a list of people who want this arm then u write their name in different pieces paper then mix them up and pick up one who will have ur arm with suitable price for u. This way is very fair to guys in HBS and the guy who pick it up won't have to pay much for it or less ( it will be a suitable price for u and for us) sorry for my bad English

Tim, I do have to say that that arm looks purely incredible. That arm, and the gimbal you've posted have actually given me some pause in terms of whether or not I want to finish up my rig. (Speaking of which, you don't have an old vest kicking around, do you? ) Really, that arm should go for $500 - or more. That arm, with maybe an hour or two of work, turns into a professional quality arm in no time. That's something that's worth a lot to a lot of people.

Tim--pick a reserve and set a time limit. Have the bids sent PM and post the highest bid each day or whenever you feel is right. On the last day have the bids open on HBS? Good luck.
