Well, after running more tests, it appears that when that one battery is subjected to load, it acts just like a dead short. Really a shame too. Oh well, I still have 2 of them.

I ordered two from the same Hong Kong dealer on eBay, and got them within just a few days. Yes, shipping was more than the batteries. Smaller and lighter than I expected. I like them and have encountered no problems yet.

Phil, I know you're bound to see this so here goes.

Do you think you could power a camera mounted spotlight with one of the batteries you use? My electrical guy says the cables running up my post cannot handle that many amps, so I can't use the bottom stage bat for this. If I need to use a light I have to find another way to power it. I guess another option would be to wear a battery belt and attach a cable, but I'd prefer to avoid that.

I don't really know, but my guess is it would run a 12v light though for how long I couldn't say.  How big a light are we talking?

It's a spotlight, the kind they use for ENG work. Like the one in yesterday's post by Eran Dan.

The one I use has a 50 watt Halogen lamp in it.

It's worth trying, but a better solution would be a self contained light--the battery built in.

I've never seen one of those.

No luck, Martin.  I did find some at B&H photo, but they were really expensive.  Might be worth making your own. Smiley

Thanks for looking Phil.

Apparantly Sony has recently come out with a camera mounted light that uses LED technology and gets it power from the same kind of battery that runs the camera. The kit comes with the battery mount, but it's at the end of a cable, not on the light's housing.

I saw it this weekend but couldn't get a demonstration. It can be dimmed but I didn't learn whether or not the color changes when you do. When I have time I will  try to find it on the Internet. It ain't cheap.
