Just curious Cody, have you done any tests where you extended your crane to 3 sections instead of 2 6' peices? I only ask because I am in the process of building a boom arm using 1.25" x 72" tubing with 1/8" thick walls. just trying to see if you did try to build yours with three sections did you run into any problems that lead you to use only two sections?

No I never tried three sections. I think you'd have to consider using some sort of guide-wire system to help stabilize the extra length.

Thanks for the responses Cody and Michael. It has been an ordeal getting this thing built, but it is almost complete. I did use three sections of 72" steel. And as you mentioned Cody, it was unstable to say the least. So I had to add guide wires, a total of 6. This thing went way over budget and is still climbing. I have not finished the remote head yet, and now I'm thinking of purchasing a camera turret instead of using the servos. But I will worry about that another day.
Got to finish that darn dolly and "bump free" track. Thanks a lot for the plans Cody. I owe you big time. most of my equipment are from some of your plans.
