Jamie, is that 2h 23m for one single battery?
Yes from a 1.8Ah 12v Li-ion I'm as shocked as you I was expecting less than a 1hr

Hm, perhaps it uses less juice when just showing color bars? I would think that a constantly changing screen would give it a more thorough workout.

I just received my two silver batteries that Jamie posted. I'm going to daisy-chain them for 12,600 mAh of 12V power. They have a nice level indicator on the side, and they look sharp.

Just another update. I initially ordered three of those black batteries with the switches. However, after paying $40 in shipping, the guy only sent me one! Apparently he's sending the other two now. But, I really don't need any of them. If anyone wants one (or two, or three), let me know. I haven't used them, and I won't charge you $40 for shipping from Hong Kong.

Yeah, no need to daisy chain those silver ones. I ran a test with the monitor hooked up to my TV. The test got really boring after 5 hours, with 25% battery life left.

Just wondering how those batteries are holding up for you guys. I'm interested mostly in the silver one for it's longer operating life. I think it says Trendy Digital on it. Trying to avoid using the drill batteries and definitely like the li-ion better. Also have a question for Alan since we have talked about the Lilliput monitor before. Did you do anything differently with the wiring? Cutting or splicing? The one that came with the monitor is extremely long with power and A/V intertwined.
Thanks

And speaking of batteries, I just gave up on my Sealed Lead Acid batteries and bought Alan's smaller black LiIons. (I'll put all 3 in parallel when I need to run a camera)

Hey Mike, the silver batteries are working great for me. If I have both charged and mounted on my sled, I never even think about whether I have enough power. Watch out though, because Tom found a bunch on eBay that are 9V, not 12V, but they look almost identical. Just keep an eye out for that.
The monitor required no fancy wiring adjustments. The silver batteries came with connectors that fit the monitor plug, and then I'm running the long video cable up the post. That leaves the audio cables, which are wound up at the base of the sled. Definitely not the most elegant solution. I may one day ask someone to cut them off nicely for me.
To clarify, I did split the video cable away from the audio cables, so that it could be run up the post.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to buy from the link Jamie posted so hopefully I don't screw it up. Out of this whole project the electrical part was the one that scared me the most so this makes me feel much better. Thank you once again.

Great stuff .. Im still using just 1 small 1.8Ah pack with no problems .. Hm, perhaps it uses less juice when just showing color bars? I would think that a constantly changing screen would give it a more thorough workout.
OH forgot to say the color bars was just for the pic to show it is on ..it was hooked up to my tv for the test and i got 2hr23min on the small 1.8Ah pack running a 7"lcd

Finally i have recieved those black batteries that also Phil Kindred uses. Just some days ago i've found my old battery broken (probably has been broken during the transport from one home to the other).
But now i have to redo the lower sled.

I just got my black batteries. None of them will power up my CRT by itself (I haven't had a chance to run them in parallel yet). I don't have a VOM handy, so I can't verifiy their voltage output. So far they are only running my wireless transmitter (spec'd at 750 mA) for from 10 to 20 minutes apiece. This after a good 8 hour charge. So far I'm not impressed.

That's very odd. They power up my 5" CRT easily (not even in parallel), even with the brightness cranked all the way up. And my LCD monitor, rated at around 1Amp, runs for hours and hours on the thing. Something's definetly wrong. Are you sure you've left them charge for the proper time? Try giving them 24 hours, and see if it helps.

Is there any visual indication when these are fully charged?
When charging the little red LED on the battery lights up. I also notice there is another LED on the charger, but I've never seen it lit.

Update:
OK. I'm an idjit. In my defense, I got no documentation whatsoever with these things. I just reread Jamie's post and I realized you have to turn them ON to charge them. So - the run times I achieved were from the surface charge only!
