Cheap Steadicam Class in Midwest
« on: February 22, 2006, 01:55:44 PM »

Hey everyone I an new here and to the whole steadicam thing. I just received this email and signed up for this class and thought there may be some more interest here. so far I was told only 3 people have signed up so the class will be very small with lots of hands on time with full pro rigs and the price is only $200 for both days!

-Travis

I am pleased to announce a special offer for anyone interested in Steadicam. Janice Arthur from Chicago has offered to put on this very special limited enrollment class on Steadicam.
Sign up quickly as class size will be VERY limited, so everyone has a chance to have maximum hands-on time with the equipment. Courses like this generally cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars, so this is a real deal.

Some info on Janice Arthur:

Janice has been operating and doing Steadicam for 23 years now and in fact
took the third class
ever taught. She has taught over 25 workshops over the years for the
Steadicam Operator's Assoc. and the Maine Photographic Workshops.

She has worked on everything from features like Groundhog Day to a Chingy
video to hundreds of industrials. Coming from a video background and
working in on the way up she knows it all.

Now, because Steadicam is no longer the specialty it once was, people can
now take a workshop and expect to go out and work. Now she has put together
a rental rig with the right accessories so that students don't have to
invest in gear in order to work.

If you take one of her workshops you can come to any future workshop for
free and practice.

Learn to be a Steadicam Operator in a
Two day intensive workshop.

This workshop will cover:
the physics of the Steadicam,
each Student will do individual, set-up and balancing
very small groups of two or three students per rig
real life shots, with recording.
Long days of practice with many set ups.
Set up of the video transmitting & receiving
Low-mode shooting
March 18 & 19, 2006

$100 per day on a weekend (so you don’t miss work).

I'm going this summer, possibly for a quite small course (probably just me and 1 or 2 others). Definetly looks like it'll be one of the higlights of my summer.

Tom,
I just got back from the class with Janice. It was really great. I learned so much and am going to be making some modifications to the Cody rig I am currently building based on some of the things I learned there. I think you will find her workshop very very helpful. Where are you from anyway?

I'm from Philadelphia. I'm by no means what I would consider an "op", but I'm not too new to the whole world of Steadis. I'm sure I'll love it. My only problem will be airfare. Oh well, I'll figure it out. Smiley

Uh, Michael, it's over 800 miles, and 13 hours. I really doubt that anyone would drive me that far. Grin

I just checked Southwest Airlines. Looks like it'd be around $120 round trip. Not bad at all.

They do have the SOA workshop, but I'm really not comfortable shelling out the $2200 for it at this stage. I will eventually, just not right now.

Michael, I've still got some time to do the SOA workshop. Remember, I just turned 16. Plus, I have gone there once as a visitor and observed all of the goings-on (and learned more than I could have ever imagined).
