picked up a stripped lcd monitor.
« on: February 06, 2006, 03:00:19 PM »

I picked up a stripped down LCD that is claimed to be 1500nits. I haven't gotten a chance to test it yet. Hopefully i'll have some time tonight to test it and post some pics. only drawback is that it's a 12.1" screen. which could be cool. has a AV800 controller card. Panel is a hitachi panel which has been modified with an extra 4 lamps  (cfl i'm assuming). it has 6 total lamps in there now. I'm guessing that's the key to a bright lcd. you can probably modify a current lcd with many white LED's or  find a  higher output cfl that can fit in your chassis. My only concern about that mod, is what it may do to the contrast. I've built a 15" LCD projector about a year ago with a 400w metal halide. People have tried a 1000w bulb and the blacks, aren't black anymore. they were gray.

To be continued. I'll get pics and report back how well this works.

heh. only 10 days late on the pictures. sorry. finally got around to snapping a few shots. first off, pictures don't do it's justice. it's pretty bright and quality is way better than the 7incher i had. on one of the pics i shined a 100watt tungsten light on it and it didn't do anything to the picture. it really wasn't a good test. I need like a 400watt hmi on it. one thing the pictures don't show is that there is alot of ambient light in the room.

I have a hammond project box that i'm going to throw this in. I'm still not sure how well it will work until i walk out on a really sunny day. If all else fails. this will make an amazing field monitor.
