Michael, it's not what YOU own, it's what you may be asked to carry, if you are not planning to go proffesional, fine. but if working within the industry, you may be engaged to carry the local TV station camera or a film camera, now this is a long shot, but if your gear is ONLY designed to work with lower weight equipment you have no chance.

I use a Magiqcan IIa with a XL1 (full house) it will do the job, but only for a year or so. the strain on the arm is too great. I am now starting to build a new rig to take up the amount I can place on board, we will keep the Magiqcam for training purposes and for doing lighter jobs.

Starting with a new slead, (will fly on the Magiqcam arm for the time) then a socket block (again the magiqcan arm) then a new arm, more than likely a Cody II arm (modified), then the new vest.
So you can see, building can be fun (even with chequebook building), don't be in a hurry, look at what best suits YOU, ask questions, gain knowledge, then and only then, get what ever you have decided on.

If near a clinic or Steadicam course, I suggest you take the training, get to fly some real rigs.

Sorry I cant help with Data on the smooth shooter.

Thanks for you input Trevor.

Industry? What industry? There's no such thing where I am  Grin
Professional yeah, but I only do my own stuff.  I don't see myself in a situation of needing to fly another camera besides my own.
The problem with building is that it's a too slow process. I need one soon. Besides I'm not a handy guy at all.

Many of the guys already on this board can help you out. Keep checking back for the marketplace. If you don't have the building skills, or the money up front, you can put it together in pieces as you can afford it. You can't buy part-by-part from any of the previous stated manufacturers, when buying a arm/vest/sled. When the marketplace pops up, you'll be able to.

If I owned a GY-HD100 like you (which I am buying within the month), I wouldn't trust it on the Steadistick or the Poor man's steadicam. Don't rush it. A stabilizer brings  your production value up immensely.... but really sucks if you don't do it right. You'll want an articulating arm with the HD100, and to stay away from the "human arm" weighted sticks. 3 months of labor to build a great rig is far better than 1 month to build a piece of crap, all in the name of speed. Building crap is time wasted...building quality is time well spent.

By market place you mean a section with classifieds?
I never really considered the steadstick or poorman's. I just posted out of curiosity.
I may have the money up front if somebody is willing to build me one. Depending how much we are talking about. If there's anybody who would be willing to build me one please shoot me an email.
As of now, my only option seems to be the Smooth Shooter.

The Flyer is about the best option for the HD100. There's also the V25, but that's getting expensive

hehe, and you are getting faster Job!  ...at least I mentioned it! But convert me? Never!! Smiley

It can be as big as a $2k difference between the rigs. I think? whatever.
Both are good rigs. V25 will hold more, but it's also heavier to start with!  Cheesy

Enough about that, I'm only in here to bitch about the M516..  IT SUCKS!  Angry  .. ok, there, I'm done.  Cool

Ok, enough about the spelling of "you're" - I'll admit it if you admit you are too.  Roll Eyes

Also full of speakers with my voice
You'd find my body on the floor after the first 2 hours, with a self enflicted fatal "socket-block to the head" wound.   Shocked
