« on: January 23, 2006, 01:39:28 AM »

Thought I'd post a pic of a quick and easy balancing bracket I made.

Nice. Is there a weight on the other end?

Weight on the other end? On the c-stand there is.

On the other side of the bracket is a knob that secures the bracket to the c-stand.

The post on the empty side is fir the gimbal--dynamic balancing. You know.....

Awesome! Looks great.

By the way, did you paint your clamps, or anodize them?

If you are referring to the collars, the dark one is teel and came anodized. The ones on the rod assemblies are not anodized, are plain aluminum right now, but will all be anodized as soon as I'm through making all the additions to my rig (which may never stop).

er, yes, collar... sorry, I'm a bit mixed up.  When I ordered mine online, I noticed you could buy them in black, but I wasn't  sure if the metal had the same strength characteristics and all that.

I'd buy aluminum collars, so you can drill into then easily if you need to, and anodize them along with everything else. It'll save ya moneythat way

WF, I was looking at your bracket and I wanted to know what the shaft collar that I have circled is for. I usually see the gimbal placed on top of the bracket to hold up the sled.

You got it, TC.

I could have just used the gimbal on the bracket, or the collar below the sled. I just wanted to get something together as quickly as I could, so I stopped by an industrial hardware store on the way into work and picked up a collar, took an extra piece of 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 18" aluminum I had in my scrap pile, cut out the fork with a bandsaw and screwed in the post on the other side. The tube that slides over the c-stand is 1" tube with 1/4" sidewalls, bolted in with 4 10-24 socket head bolts.

Do you guys think I should have done it differently? What would you guys have recommended?

I guess with it this way, when I need to slide the gimbal, it would be simple. Plus I don't have to worry about the stage collar pulling off under load with the bracket mounted under it rather than the one I have specifically for it.

I don't know.... what'ya guys think?
