Anyone own the Canon XL2?

Does anyone own the Canon XL2 camera?
Does it have firewire connectors on it?
If you record in 16:9 format does it letterbox mask it for a 4:3 tv, or does it "squish"
when displayed on a 4:3? My sony does the "squish."
Also, does anyone know of a pro-sumer camera that has
the 3x3 shot quadrant overlay in the viewfinder?
Thanks,
Russ

Yes XL2 has a firewire port.
It records proper 16:9 DV - this means "squished" when viewed on a 4:3 monitor.
I do not know if you can ask the camera to letterbox, but I'd never see any reason to do that during shooting.

I ask because the fewer things I have to do in post, the better I like it.
They make a LB filter/lens for this and the XL1 don't they?
Does the XL1 have firewire?
Thanks,
Russ

What do you output your final prodcut on?
If it's VHS, just use 4:3 and if it's DVD use the "squeeze" mode and esport a native 16:9 DVd and let the player deal with the letter boxing.
Yes the XL1 also has Firewire.

The one thing that Canon doesn't have quite yet, is truly progressive acquisition. Read some comparisons between the XL-2 and the JVC Gy100....
