Steadicam Workshop at the Tiffen factory.
« on: December 05, 2005, 10:14:07 PM »

Well I really can't believe it's true but I am going to the Tiffen Factory this Saturday and Sunday in Glendale California. I will be attending the two day Steadicam Workshop taught by Peter Abraham. And so far Peter's emails this week have led me to believe that he's a very knowledgeable instructor. I  think he will give me what I need to operate the Flyer like a pro!

When I first checked out the Tiffen website I went to the workshops page. There was an email link to Tiffen's Steadicam division representative Frank Rush.  Frank immediately emailed me back the information about this weekend's upcoming workshop and sent my information to Peter. All this on a Sunday within about 5 minutes!

Next thing I knew Peter had emailed me a reply about this weekend's upcoming event. I thought to myself, "these people really are pros when it comes to responding to their customer’s questions and needs."

Peter Abraham's website is a must see for anyone who is serious about becoming a Steadicam operator. After checking out Peter's credentials on the internet I realized Peter makes learning how to operate a Steadicam fun as well as educational. All you have to do is a Google Search for Steadicam and Peter Abraham and you will find a lot of people saying great things about his skills as an instructor.

Here's Peter Abraham's website:

http://www.on-campus-steadicam-workshops.com/

And you can contact Frank Rush here:

http://www.steadicam.com

P.S. Frank Rush told me starting tomorrow, December 6th, there is going to be some great deals on the Steadicam website for used and demo Steadicam rigs and gear.

Also if you want to buy or rent professional camera Stabilizer gear including the Steadicam Flyer and the Glidecam Smooth Shooter, make sure you check out the www.evsonline.com website. The company is located in Glendale, Califronia right near The Tiffen facility. They have the most  fantastic inventory of  professional video and audio gear in the industry. The first time I looked at their catalogue I fell in love with all the great equipment they have for rental or purchase.  Of course if you can't make it to their beautiful showroiom in Glendale you can still order everything they offer online. You aint no kind of friend.
Come around here bragging and stuff.

I hope you learn some good stuff Michael, get challenged beyond your hopes, and run into a little miss Steadicam operator and have  some little Steadicam op babies.

Have Fun Bud,

Well it's Sunday night and The Stedicam training was unbelievable! It's too late for all the details now but I will say this one thing. Even though most of my ideas about how the Steadicam worked and how it was operated were correct there were some very big misconceptions too. I've learned a lot and feel very humbled by the exprience. I am glad I went and would encourage anybody who is serious about learning how to fly a rig to go to one of these workshops.

Sorry about the delay in reporting  my experience at the Tiffen factory this past weekend. I am still waiting to get the pics I need to illustrate some of the topics I will be covering.

Any progress, Michael?  I'm sure I'm not the only one anxious to see the pics.
