No.

The modify button is only showing up on my post.

Okay, then that's the way it should be. All members should be able to modify their own post but not others unless they are top members and/or moderators.

Any idea why it wasn't refreshing earlier? Just curious.

Well folks, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the board or the sql-db. I've just spent hours pouring through the logs and db tables searching for errors and hacking attempts and there appears to be nothing "amiss"

Joe, You started this thread by stating "I just accidentally modified someone else’s post." with no other information or evidence to support that claim. There is nothing in the logs or the db that would suggest you were able to mod another members post. I know this because I know your IP address (71.114.26.XXX) which is the only IP you've logged in from since early October and I've reviewed every action you've taken and there's nothing to suggest that any post, other than your own, were modified.

Phil, in case you forgot you are an admin! You have the permissions to change, modify, move, split or remove any members post in any forum.

As far as stats go, not all stats totals are compiled on an hourly basis - it takes too much server attention and is usually updated once a day in the early hours of the morning (US-EST). If anyone is having problems with data refreshing there are a number of situations that can cause this. 1) temporary db connection errors. (unlikely but possible) 2) You've logged in and left a browser open on you computer for a long period of time and your session cookie expired - solution: log out then sign back in. 3) Your cache is messed up - solution: clear out your cache and delete all your cookies.

Happy flying,

Kevin

I will say, however, that I am most certainly not an admin, but I have occasionally seen the "modify" button on all posts, not just my own. It's been back to normal for a while now.

The post modifying issue has been clarified by Joe and there was a permission problem in the Plans, 3D drawings Designs forum that was localized to that forum. Each forum has it's own set of permissions for each membergroup. When that board was setup there was a permission enabled that allows a member to modify replies to a topic that that member started. It's a very localized permission an one easily missed. This is what Joe was seeing and may be what your seeing Alan.  It's really not a big deal but it's been fixed nonetheless.

There are thousands of settings in this script and hundreds of permissions to keep track of so missing one here and there is almost expected. It would be very helpful if you guys could let me know if you see any other problems that may be hidden away in the corners of the board. I'm sure there's others.

And just for the record - Joe, It wasn't my intention to try to make you look stupid - I just couldn't find any trace of you modifying another post other than your own. In fact I still can't see a record of anything in the mod logs which is something I'll have to look into. There has to be a record somewhere. Thanks for your help in identifying the "hidden" permission!

Thanks for the mention Kevin.

I was beginning to think I had a screw coming loose or something. That maybe my elevator wasn’t stopping at all the floors, or my engine wasn’t running on all cylinders or that the lights were on but nobody was home…

You get the idea.

Anyway I’m perfectly capable of looking stupid all by my self thank you.

And with that, a big thanks to Kevin for the program that runs this board! People like me tend to forget that this stuff doesn't just run by itself.
