Yeah, I'd love a copy, and I've got nice high speed Cable, so if anybody has a copy and feels like sending it, I'd be happy to download it.

I believe the discussion is about hard copies. Firing the thing over the internet just stikes me as wrong. We need to remember that the tape/dvd is someone's property--Tiffen's. A non-profit exchange between friends is acceptable, but a use of the forum and site to distribute copies--non-profit or not--is questionable. It just does not feel right to me.

Well, either way is fine with me. I just figured that the internet is much easier than paying for postage.

I'm starting to agree with you, Phil. Maybe it's not such a great idea. What about a sharing system, like checking it out from the library? We could make a list of people who want to see it. Each person could keep the tape for a couple of weeks to view it.
What they do with the tape during that time is private and not discussed on this forum, though I think it goes without saying that if someone were to digitize the video and share it online, that would be a big disappointment and not in the spirit of respecting the copyright.
At the end of the check-out time, they send it to the next person. No exchange of money: you receive the shipped tape for free, and you pay out of your own pocket to ship it to the next person. What we would need to begin is a list of names and addresses, and a generous and trusting individual that is willing to part with their own copy of the video.
Does anyone think this is a reasonable possibility?

The copy I have was posted on the net and several people downloaded it. It is,granted, an old tape and intended to be an EFP training tape. That aside, I see members sharing their copies OFFLINE as their business. As a fountain of knowledge, it is invaluable. It is unfortunate that the original tape is lost--Ted Churchill was a remarkable instuctor and Jerry as well. Plus, it is a chance to see 2 great operators in action. I have an original 3A manual full of pics and wiring diagrams. Should I post them all? It is an old unit. No, I shouldn't. It's not mine to share. That was my point. I would not take Michael or Cody's drawings and copywrite them as mine. This site is about sharing information, but--I am sure Charles will agree--there is a point where it can get out of control. Respect for the Pros intellectual property and respect for the members property should be the norm.

Wooops, I did not intend to start a problem, But then again discussion is great, and the resolve should see some solution (I trust)
Question: as I have not see the efp video, I was wondering if this is the video being marketed as advanced Steadicam Techniques'. This I have and it is a very good insight into operations.

No it's not. The one you have was done way after the EFP video. It's good but it lacks what the EFP video produces. The one you have is intended for advance operator or advance tips to strengthen their knowleadge

I got an idea. If everyone gets one and gives two away pretty soon the whole world will have one.
And so on, and so on, and so on.
Just imaging the possibilities.
My first post was not intended to be an endorsement of copyright infringement. Quite the contrary. In our profession (even if its part time like it is with me) copyrights are essential to continued paychecks. If one chooses to release their publication for mass free distribution it should be explicit. Now posting any copyrighted material on the web for free downloaded is explicit consent. But if someone purchases a copyrighted product, there is no implicit permission to distribute it to any one else. I used to make videos of amateur dance. The parents would line up to purchase DVDs from me. One Christmas a couple of years ago everyone got a little DVD burner for their PCs; my sales to the same families dropped in half the next recital to the point where it was no longer profitable to do the videos anymore. Anyway thanks for letting me rant a bit.

You didn't start a problem, Trevor. My view is that the site shoudl stay clear of anything that involves others intellecual property. I don't know if the EFP tape is still under copywrite, but I have to assume so. There have been many posts on the forum about pro rigs and our plans--including the infamous "why be so selfish, just publish the plans". I have no problem sharing the little I know with anyone that asks. As I said, I have a 3A manual and a huge amount of rig pics from the net. The pics are mass distriubution, but that does not mean that the you can copy a V25 down to last nut and bolt and sell it as your own. A little common sense has to enter the equation. I doubt highly that any of us are here to steal ideas or profit from others work. I have enough just trying to figure out what I'm doing!

Oi, too bad it's out of distribution... I'd love to see it in order to gain a better understanding of steadicam procedures. This case is a good example of where copyright laws fail.

i agreed with phil that we should keep this site clear of such open distribution of copyright material. if you need to, be discreet and do it under individual capacity as suggested by trevor.
