I have received an e-mail from jocke@steerbear.com asking if I knew where he could obtain blueprints for a rig. I'm not sure what this is about--has anyone one else received a similar message? A manufacturers blue prints are their property--patent or not. Later note--They do have a website and seem to be a group of young folds starting out. I still don't know if I should answer--if I do I will recomment Cody's second book.

Does Cody license his plans for commercial use. If I were to offer any of my designs I would have 2 different prices. One for enthusiast and one for manufacturers.
We of all people should be cognizant of copy right infringement.

That's a good question--Cody? It's not clear from the e-mail if they want to make one for themselves or for the market.

I'd be cautious with what you tell them. If they're naiive enough to think that we have blueprints for the commercial rigs, they might be naiive enough to not respect copyrights, trademarks, and general common sense.

I'm not sure they are out to violate anyone's rights. I think they are looking for an easy answer--something that does not exist, in this case. They have obviously been to the site since that is where they got my e-mail address from, so they should be able to see what we have all done.

I answered in the negative--to my best knowledge there are no blueprints available and, if there are, they are most likely stolen. I advised them to come up with their own design and protect it.

the funny thing is......
even if you had actual blue prints---- by the time you pay a machinist 60+ dollars per hour, and then buy Ti springs, you might as well just buy one.....
if you make it yourself and have some pride that is different... it reminds me of making street rods in the 60's-70's.......
