Square tubing at the base - what is it for?
« on: August 31, 2005, 02:30:39 PM »

There are two square pieces of tubing at the base of the sled.  They are 12.5 X 12.5, but I am unsure what they are used for?  Is  this for extra stability or weight?

Partially for stability, and also to create a slot for the bolt heads and wires to use. Smiley

Stability I can see, but I am unsure what you mean about the bolt head and wires part...

They're not necessary, but they keep the sled base off the wires coming out the bottom in case the sled is ever set on the ground.

Ok, gotcha.  I was thinking that the tubes might have been used for when the bolts come down, they would have stopped it from sticking out the bottom - but after looking again at the plans, I see they bolt go all the way through the tubing, so in effect, the bolts would be touching the ground anyways.

The holes on the very bottom of the tubes are larger. The bolts stop inside the tubes.
