Vest - Back or Front mount?
« on: April 07, 2004, 09:53:00 PM »

I know this has been discussed before, but what are the differences between the two? It seems like the clear choice should be back mount if it is better for the back. Is the back mount more difficult to get used to, or move around in? Is it less comfortable then the front mount?

From what I've read, the only pros for the front mount are it's good looks and comfort.. but it also seems like the front is more easily adjusted. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

I wear my waist plate right on my hip bones to keep the vest stable.  If I were to wear it higher on my waist, the entire vest would push back away from my body.

After a while using the rig, my hips get a bit sore.  This is where having a form-fitting shell like a DSD becomes extremely useful.  Without that shell, my design depends solely on the hips for support.

The padding on my vest is not very thick so I think by simply adding more cushion between the hips and the belt I should be more comfortable.  I hope to try this very soon.

Otherwise, that is my only complaint with the back-mount design.
